Description
The watchtower, the highest point of the Serre de Barre, can be reached via a path from the road (see approach by car). As I said, these panoramic views are well worth the effort! This is also a superb take-off point for paragliders who like to fly over the Cévennes d'Ardèche.
Once you reach the summit, the view is superb in every direction. You can see the snow-capped Alps and Mont Ventoux to the east, Mont Lozère to the west and the Tanargue massif to the north.
The mountain ranges follow on from one another. The countless hamlets and villages scattered across the valley are a spectacular sight in themselves.

From Les Vans, follow the D901 towards Villefort for 8 km. The car park is on the right just after the hamlet of Les Combes. The path starts on the other side of the road, 50 m further up on the left. The yellow markings start at the sign "La Champ - Les plots". The path winds through chestnut trees before reaching a track that you will have to climb for 4 km to reach the Serre de Barre ridge.
