The Montselgues blockfield trail cuts across a wild, stony landscape of granite.
Description
Ideal for a family outing, the 8km “Chaos de Montselgues” blockfield trail in a loop won’t leave you indifferent. The climb to Montselgues from the Piedmont is an experience in itself with its magnificent scenery from the Corniche des Cévennes (on which the road is built). Once you get to Montselgues, the unique atmosphere of these landscapes that seem to be cut off from the world is breathtaking. Natural erosion has reduced the rock to a multitude of stones of all sizes, forming a vista of natural sculptures… The French word for a blockfield is a “chaos” – beautifully apt for the feeling you can get looking at the stones in their seemingly gravity-defying piles. The geology of these blockfields has given rise to a very particular building style in the Ardeche with its amazing houses.
