There's easy access to this viewpoint. But that doesn't mean the view is any less beautiful! The 19th-century chapel of Sainte Philomène faces the hermitage of Saint Eugène, overlooking the Chassezac valley.
Description
From the village of Les Vans, take the road towards Alès. After a few hairpin bends, you'll see a chapel on your left, "La chapelle Saint Philomène". This small chapel dates from the 19th century. It faces the Saint Eugène hermitage, built on a limestone cliff overlooking the Chassezac valley and the village of Chassagnes.
There is a car park where you can park and take full advantage of the exceptional view over the birth of the Gorges du Chassezac and the Bois de Païolive. An orientation table makes it easy to read the landscape.
On foot
To admire the panorama from the Chapelle Saint Eugène, follow the signs on the hiking trail beneath the chapel.
Good to know:
Picnic tables are available under the old station not far from the chapel, so you can take full advantage of the site and enjoy a relaxing break.
