Alba Helviorum: a journey back in time to Gallo-Roman times! Take a stroll around the remains, which transport you to the heart of an ancient town with its administrative centre, theatre and shops.
Description
Today, the 17-hectare archaeological site bears witness to the existence of the capital of a Gallo-Roman people, the Helvians, an essential link in the functioning of the Roman Empire. Visiting the site takes you to the heart of the daily lives of its inhabitants, and reveals the importance of a wealthy trading city, with its administrative centre, theatre, temples and shops. Forgotten for over 1,500 years, it was rediscovered under the vines in the 18th century.
